General Notes: Ebenezer Selden (Ebenezer, Thomas, Thomas), son of Ebenezer and Elizabeth (Clark) Selden, was b. 5-17-1720; d. Mid. 5-18-1807; m. 1st (int.) 10-24-1753, Jerusha POMEROY, m. 2nd 1-3-1769, Mary OLCOTT, m. 3rd 1-23-1787, Mrs. Mary (ELLIS) MACK, widow of Elisha Mack. It was in 1786 that Ebenezer Selden bought of Enos Blossom his Tavern property on the County Highway where Mr. Arthur D. Pease now (1924) lives. Selden lived there but a few years if at all, for he soon sold it to Elijah Bartholomew who kept the tavern for a year or two.
Tradition says that Selden lived in a house on the west side of the highway from Pease's to the Center some 15 rods from the former. Another tradition has it that the Selden house stood on the north side of the cross road from Pease's to the "still," and that the old house became an ell attached to the Pease house about 1821 but since removed. Mr. Selden built the first house on the site of the dwelling of Mr. E.H. Alderman and lived there until his death, at the advanced age of 89.

General Notes: His father gave him his house and property about 1760 which he remodeled and converted it into an inn and tavern, which became the social meeting place in Hartford. He died in 1768 at the age of 37 years. His widow, Jennett, continued the operation of the inn and tavern which was well known during the Revolutionary War; being "without any suspicion of Tory sentiment". George Washington was a frequent visitor and entertained there. Upon Jennett's retirement, her son William operated the business for several years and then in 1788 sold it to Frederick Bull who operated under the name; "City Coffee House".

Hezekiah II was one of the founders of Christ Church and a man of wealth. He died March 1768, aged 37 years. His will was presented 1768 at Hartford by his executors, George Smith and James Church.

General Notes: Captain John Chenevard was descended from any early Huguenot family that came to Hartford from Boston between 1721 and 1727. He was a prominent pre- revolutionary war Hartford merchant trading in the West Indies and member of the Connecticut Pay Table during the Revolutionary War*. In 1784 he was a member of the Hartford Common Council.

Burials at Center Church indicate one child of Capt. John Chenevard was buried in 1774 and two infant children were buried 14 Jan 1778 and 25 Aug 1781. Also on 17 Nov 1801 Michael Chenevard, "son of Capt. John and Hepzibah Collyer) Chenevard, aged 30 years"

*The military finances for the colony of Connecticut were handled by the Pay-Table, also known as the Committee of Four, during the American Revolution (1775-1784). Pay-Table members rotated during the lengthy confrontation with England.

He had four children with his second wife, Hannah Flagg. William and Henry died young. In 1852 daughters Hepzibah (died 5 Dec 1864) and Margaret "These two maiden ladies reside in the old mansion of the family at Hartford, with competent support". Inventory of his estate was $30,324.
