Descendants of Joseph Collier

Joseph Collier* arrived in Connecticut about 1660; however circumstances of his birth and prior history are unknown. "The Story of our Branch of the Collier Family", privately published 1975 by Charles Collier speculated (as have others) that he was the son of William Collyer, one of the Merchant Adventurers identified with the Plymouth Colony who arrived at the Colony in 1633. A more likely theory is that our subject was a relative and arrived in New England between 1633 and 1637 as a young man apprenticed to William Collyer.

Charles Collier expanded the family tree beginning with George Collier (sixth generation), an original settler of the Western Reserve region of Ohio in the 1820s. My research has added the current generation and descendants of earlier generations not previously included. The advent of the internet has made available information source heretofore only available by visiting research library and the ability to collaborate with other family researchers. Family research by definition, however, is an avocation that can never be completed as new family members are identified and errors corrected. Any attempt include all descendants would be futile, but safe to say most people with "Collier" in their name can probably trace their ancestry back to Joseph Collier or three other original immigrant Collier men who came to Massachusetts in the 1630s.

For those family members who have found this page, I think will be a good read. I welcome input / comments from interested family members to correct errors and omissions.

* The last name; Collyer and Colyer were noted in various citations up until about 1750.
